History Collaboration
between Dennis Ward and Michael Kiske started in 2004 when the Frontiers Records-chief
Serafino Perugino decided to create a new project with both musicians. Serafino
proposed to Dennis to write songs in AOR style and for Michael's voice. Ward didn't
have enough time for this and needed support so he asked The Pinkies help him.
A new project called Place Vendome (the name came from Serafino) was born with
follow line-up: Dennis Ward (bass, backing vocals), Kosta Zafiriou (drums), Uwe
Reitenauer (guitars). Uwe played as second guitarist on live shows of Pink Cream
69 since 2003. He was Koffl's support during performances but never worked in
a studio with PC69 before. So composing and recording songs for Plave Vendome
became a very good experience for The Pinkies: Uwe proved himself as good composer
and worked in the studio with Dennis and Kosta. It became useful during recording
a next PC69 album "In10sity". Place Vendome line-up was completed by
Gunter Werno (keyboards) from Vanden Plas. Gunter many times worked with Dennis
and played on PC69 albums. Alfred Koffler and David Readman from PC69 helped to
Dennis to write songs for Place Vendome, also Alfred played guitars on two tracks.
When Dennis and K? were busy creating new songs Serafino contacted via e-mail
with Michael Kiske. Shortly after that Kiske were sent samples of new songs. Michael
liked them and agreed to sing in Place Vendome. However initially Michael knew
only that he is working with Dennis Ward and had no idea about the participation
in the project of The Pinkies. But later he recognized that it was a clever decision
by Dennis Ward to work with a good team. According to Kiske "that's the first
thing you recognize when you listen to the album. It all sounds very harmonically
and professionally". Recording the album was in two studios in same time.
While Michael recorded vocals in his own studio, Dennis worked with other musicians
in House Of Audio - one of the best studios of Southern Germany located near his
home in Karlsdorf. But the demos which Dennis sent to Michael for recording vocals
sounded much softer than final versions of the songs. Kiske was dissatisfied by
the final result and required to rerecord guitars but Dennis answered that "as
a Producer it's also my job to keep in consideration the marketing aspect of selling\promoting
a record. I did what I felt would bring more attention to the record. I'm also
pretty sure that the degree of "heaviness" that Kiske is talking about
is very minimal when comparing to the demos I delivered". Besides of this
dispute the album was recorded quickly and without problems. For example recording
of the drums took only three days. The debut Place Vendome album called "Place
Vendome" was released on October 10, 2005 and was received very well by both
fans and critics. The success of the debut album prompted Serafino Perugino at
the idea of continuing the project. But Dennis was too busy with other bands and
couldn't to write the songs so the Frontiers Records-chief invited side composers.
In October 2008 when Kosta finished Hellish-tour with Helloween Place Vendome
in a same line-up started recording of a new album. Recording took place in Piranha
Studio (Karlsdorf) and The TrackShack Studio (Bruchsal). The album was produced,
recorded, mixed and mastered by Dennis Ward. Also Dennis played additional guitar.
The second Place Vendome album called "Streets Of Fire" was released
on February 20, 2009. For promotion of the album Place Vendome made video on "My
Guardian Angel" song. A second album repeated the success of debut album.
Since the first Place Vendome album, Michael and I (as well as Michael and
Dennis) have been in loose contact with each other. We found out that we, which
led after the second Place Vendome album to the idea of creating a band together. During
recording of "Streets Of Fire" Dennis, Kosta and Michael came up with
idea to create a new band together. The Pinkies and Michael found out that they
have a lot in common in regards of musical taste; also Michael was impressed by
Dennis Ward's skills as a songwriter and producer. According Michael's opinion
the band makes the much better songs under the different influences so divergent
opinions are positive for the band. Swiss guitarist Mandy Meyer (Asia, Gotthard
and Krokus) completed the line-up. He was suggested by Dennis who produced Krokus
album. Also Mandy worked together with Jan Bayati who was Gotthard manager and
was very impressed by Bottom Row job. In November 2009 was official announced
about creating of a new band called Unisonic. Unisonic was the only name that
all band really liked. It was formed from words Unison and Sonic so it means a
music harmony. The band immediately began to develop their music and Bottom Row
Promotion booked Unisonic at the some European festivals in summer 2010.
